At any school, students need coaches and teachers who help them achieve their goals both in and out of the classroom. One particular person within Norton City Schools has significantly contributed to where some of our students are today. This person is Mr. Boezi, the Director of Bands at our school. Mr. Boezi attended Ohio State University, where he majored in music education. He has been involved with the band for the past two years and is relatively new to our school. However, he has made incredible progress, especially with the band. His job is to get our band students ready for every upcoming concert, tournament, and competition. When asked how he prepares them for such events, he stated, “Lots of practice. We practice two to three times a week for multiple hours. Ultimately, I guide them through the whole process, but mainly, they are the ones doing all the work.”

One of the most recent events he directed was a competition in Indianapolis, where our students had the amazing opportunity to perform at Lucas Oil Stadium. There were over 110 bands, and our band placed 5th in their class and 76th overall in the competition. When asked how he felt about the trip to Indianapolis, he explained that it was a fun experience. He said our students had a great performance, and he enjoyed getting to know his band students better. Overall, he believed the trip was a success and feels confident that our team will continue to progress. Mr. Boezi greatly appreciates all of the work his band students have done so far this year. When asked about how he feels about the graduating class of 2025, he said: “I feel like it's a great group of individuals. They are hard workers, and many are devoted to the things they’re involved in. They’re a great group that I will miss.” He was also asked for advice for students thinking about joining the band and he stated, “Be prepared to give hard work and effort!” He also encouraged students to email him if they have any questions about joining!
