Teacher Feature: Mr. Cercek

By: Lacie Dye

This month's teacher feature is Mr. Cercek! He currently teaches physical science and biology here at Norton High School. However, when asked what career path he would have chosen if he wasn't a teacher, Mr. Cercek said he would be a firefighter or an evolutionary biologist. Mr. Cercek decided to teach because he wanted to make everyone's day better. A large majority of his students would agree he has accomplished that goal. His favorite thing about teaching is being around students and interacting with them. Besides teaching, Mr. Cercek's favorite hobbies are sports-related things like batting cages, track, golf, and fishing. When asked what animal he would be if he could choose, Mr. Cercek chose a wolf. "I like that they travel in packs, are loyal to each other, and always stick together," said Cercek. His most significant accomplishments have been coaching and teaching at Norton High School for eight years. He says his family, wife, and new baby motivate him the most. Mr. Cercek's favorite fun fact is that although lionfish are beautiful, they are invasive and destroy the coral reefs. His pet peeve is when students do not put in effort. He believes that students would be surprised to
know he was a kickball champion and was even on a kickball team. And his hidden talent is that he can run faster than you might think he can. Finally, Mr. Cercek's favorite quotes are "Good, better, best, never let it rest until your good is your better, and you better is your best "and "Castles made of sand will fall into the sea eventually."
