Premier League: Liverpool out of the Race

By: Jaelyn Haarlammert

Liverpool are officially out of the title race! Sadly, With this being Jürgen Klopp’s last season with the Reds, they were unable to put in enough effort to win the league. With the season-ending soon, Liverpool has a minimal chance of being able to come back. Arsenal won their last two games, while Manchester City won their previous three, making the two teams just one point apart. With Arsenal at 83 in first place and City right behind them with 82. Liverpool have dropped down to 3rd place and 5 points behind the team in first place. On Saturday, April 13th, City won 5-1 against Luton Town, gaining three points, while the next day,
Liverpool lost against Crystal Palace 0-1. On that same day, Arsenal also lost 0-2 to Aston Villa, moving Manchester City up higher in the table. With some more mid-table drama, Newcastle
beat Tottenham, placing themselves high enough on the table to play in Europe next season. But Chelsea FC has been on a winning streak recently and has beaten Manchester United for 7th place, just behind Newcastle, and they might take Newcastle’s position as they are only 2 points behind. If they manage to do that, then Chelsea will be in Europe next season, effectively kicking out Newcastle. Arsenal were able to redeem themselves, as on April 20th, they beat Wolves 2-0, putting themselves in front of Manchester City. On the 21st, Liverpool won against Fulham, but it wasn’t enough to put themselves ahead of City. On April 23rd, Arsenal embarrassed Chelsea, beating them 5-0. To confirm that Liverpool were out of the title race, Everton, Liverpool’s rivals, beat them 2-0, while City won the next day, placing themselves higher than Liverpool. Many fans are sad that Liverpool will not be winning the league this year, but many more are excited for Arsenal as they have not won in many years. Will this season’s trophy go to the team who won it last year, Manchester City? Or will Arsenal
make their fans proud and happy and bring it home?
