Working Towards a Winter Wonderland: Norton Winter Formal

By: Evan Butcher

The Norton Student Council has begun preparations for the long-awaited Winter Formal, a highly anticipated event as Norton hasn’t hosted one since the COVID-19 lockdown. Senior Maddie Mullet, a member of the National Honor Society, shared her excitement: “I am looking forward to Winter Formal in hopes that it is better than Homecoming. I hope that Winter Formal lives up to our expectations.” To revive the tradition of Winter Formal, there is a need for lights, decorations, and a DJ to make the dance special—all of which come with a cost. To make it happen, the student council has been working tirelessly on fundraising efforts. Ms. Brahman, head of the student council, expressed her dedication, stating, “We’re determined to make this Winter Formal an unforgettable experience for everyone, but it’s only possible because of the fundraising efforts and support from the school and its community.”

The student council has come up with creative solutions to raise the necessary funds. One example is a change drive, which has already brought in over $200. Additionally, a fundraiser at the newly rebranded Wolf Creek Creamery contributed significant funds, with the final amount still being tallied. With Winter Formal scheduled for February 8, 2025, the student council is working hard to ensure the event meets students' high expectations. Evan Easterling, a senior and member of the Chess Club, commented, “The work to get Winter Formal in place has been very apparent. It’s exciting that it will be the first Winter Formal in a few years.” Tickets for the dance will go on sale a week before the event and will be open to Norton High School students. Junior Frankie Foster, who is involved with the school’s fashion show, said, “I think Winter Formal is a good idea. I’m excited, but I hope it’s not cold!”As the date approaches, students are eagerly awaiting their chance to dress up, make memories, and dance the night away. Scheduled for February, this Winter Formal will revive a cherished tradition that many have missed and, hopefully, deliver on the promises and excitement built up over the years.
